I used it as a winter beater too long and it is hurting right now with rusty rockers and floor and a worn out engine. I miss not being able to drive that car.

What VW did you have?
Nice, a manual MK3 Golf, somehow I got added into Burnallthemk3s on Facebook and have really appreciated some of the 90s ness of them with all the options they had in Europe and the higher quality builds out there.

Even in Florida a few MK3 owners had rocker rust issues. How many miles did you put on yours, those 8Vs seem to last forever.

I currently still have my MK6 GTI that I am probably going to autocross again until I fix the Integra. Grew up in a VW household and had a Quantum wagon and a Scirocco, sadly the Quantum was totaled back in 05 by a Ford Exploder and the Scirocco was sold to a local VW race shop that used the parts. Need to find pictures of the Quantum and Scirocco.. Stil wantl a MK1 Scirocco or a 16v Scirocco as a project car...

Still waiting on the motor. I probably should ask for an update...but I've been keeping myself busy on other car stuff like maintenance on my parent's cars.

In the mean time I decided to start my Integra and observe what is going on its definitely cylinder 4 that is done. The spark plugs I bought when I swapped them at the last autocross I went to looked fine except for cylinder 4, all it took was the 40 mile drive home and cylinder 4 was covered in oil, swapped over another plug to 4 and it also got covered in oil after just idling in the driveway and trying to drive it in my neighborhood. Also decided to vent my catchcan to atmosphere to see what happens and it's smoking like a chimney.

Video of the smoke
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0dHFlpC9lI

I don't think I spun a bearing, but all the blowby is definitely affecting the spark on cylinder 4 causing it to run rough and misfire when I attempted to drive it. Guess the plan is to keep this short block once I get my other block and rebuild it as a backup. 82mm is safe on stock sleeves? Tempted to keep this as a stock P30/P73 piston setup.

Short block will be shipped soon, have to travel for work on the week of the 14th so most likely after I get back I'll be getting the motor.

The plan is currently to pull the head first, inspect everything and get it refreshed, then evaluate what to do next.

For a continuation of this thread where I had a failed cylinder 4 ringland:
viewtopic.php?t=1566

I decided to go ahead with putting new pistons back in with new rings. If I didn't have my ringland failure on cylinder 4, I think my head would have been the next failure point. Found out the a few of the titanium retainers of unknown mileage were showing signs of chipping/thinning. Ended up replacing them with chromoly ones

Additionally I decided to swap out the cams to the spare CTR/00-01 ITR cams I got from a friend a few years ago.

Engine is currently running and tuned and I just did my first autocross on it post tune. Smoking seems gone, my bumper is clean and I survived driving a 300 mile round trip.

Now I need to deal with the 205/50 RT660s on a 15x8 and run wider than the RE71r, and they slightly rub on the passenger rear.

My assumption on the previous oil consumption issue was a combination of too many bad things at once, improper break-in with oil and coolant leaks during the first hour of start to piston ring gap and installation not following the service manual.

Well its dead again, and based on what I am seeing on the head, I dropped a valve?

I think I may have overrevved it the day before at a trackcross event when did a bad rev match from 3rd to 2nd, but the logs I have from track addict linked to S300 doesnt show anything crazy. The highest it saw was 8700 RPM and I redline at 8600 and had it on the dyno at 8800 before my tuner and I decided to lower the rev limit to be safe... I had shredded an AC and Alternator belt at the same time and it felt weird, which I should have taken as a warning sign the next day...

Happened during an autocross run.

I'm sorry for your loss. I do love to see pics like this though. Def dropped a valve. What retainers/keepers?

Supertech chromoly retainers that I installed last year and reused the keepers I had previously (unknown brand).

The valve stem broke just under the keeper, but the keeper and retainer seemed fine. It seems it snapped in two places. Where the retainer/keeper holds it up, and also in the bottom of the valve stem.

I am thinking of using OEM valves instead? I have a set of low mileage ITR valves or should I look for new OEM?

A friend of mine who works at a machine shop want to see if it can be fixed, which given the availability, I am probably going to look into it since his shop seems to have experience in it. I might just give him both cylinder heads I have to see my best options. But I would get it fixed to have a spare.

Pictures of the plugs. Cylinders 1, 3 and 4 came out fine, but cylinder 2 got destroyed

Man, sure is great to have buddies like that! Hurts a lot less sometimes.

Now that I'm on a comp. It does looks like some sort of detonation was happening as well (the chips in the carbon on the piston crowns that appear bronze). Plugs look normal to hot, but with "back to back" trackcross and autocross, id say normal. If I may suggest either fresh injectors or clean and balance the current ones once restored.
