A History of 01-0193: Part 6

Post by s98d7fs » Wed Sep 13, 2017 8:00 am

Hey all,

To celebrate the new ITRCA forums, I'm finally getting around to creating this project/build thread. I'll add in content later for what I've kept up with while it's been under my ownership (and hopefully I can dig up all the stuff from the previous 5 owners as well).

I purchased the ITR back in September 2011, right around 102,000 miles, from a fellow up in New York. Flew up, drove it 9 hours or so back to NC. I purchased it as a second car serving all sorts of useful tasks, such as grocery-getter, baby hauler, track toy, and bike transporter.

As is stands as of the start of this project thread, it's almost at 130,000 miles, and driving (and looking better) every day :D

Since no new project thread is complete without pics, here's one of the first ones I took when I first got the ITR home:
Image

Will circle back with more info (for posterity), and more pics (for funsies).

Am I missing parts 1-2-3-4-5? Either way, thank you for sharing. I look forward to the project updates.

Hey Luke,

Parts 1-5 might be a bit of a mystery, unless some of the previous 5 owners chime in. I've got some background and some maintenance history from the previous owners (which I'll post the FS ads shortly).

And so it begins (Parts 1 and 2...)

Post by s98d7fs » Mon Sep 18, 2017 7:16 am

From what I've been able to gather researching the internet, here's the previous For Sale ads for this car:

Owners 1-2 are a bit of a mystery. I believe one of the first two owners of the car was a fellow called "Jetydosa", but apparently this person had two ITRs, so the history of this car is a bit hard to peel out from thread postings.

From the details I have in paper records, I can tell the following:

The first owner was in Georgia (Stephen) and was a fellow enthusiast (by that I mean he picked some fun parts and tracked the car). He dyno'd the car in '01 at 167bhp & 123.2 lb/ft of torque. And he had added the following:
- JDM 23MM Rear Sway Bar
- Mugen Header & Exhuast
- Tein HA coilers, then swapped to Koni's and GCs at around 45k miles

As far as interesting maintenance, the transmission was opened up to fix a shifting issue (burred 2-3 synchros), which was fixed under warranty.

And fun fact, the 1st owner took the car to Expo in April of '03.

And the start of Part 6...

Post by s98d7fs » Mon Sep 18, 2017 7:37 am

And so, with the many posts above starting the backstory of this car, that now brings us at least to the start of my ownership, back in September 2011. So, before I fill in my journey with 01-193, here's a quick snap of the car today. More to follow!

I’ll start by saying that I’ve done what I can to keep the OEM-ness, maintenance and cleanliness of the car in tact. In fact I’ve probably gone a little over the top replacing parts that were “not pretty looking”. However, that being said, I’ve also really enjoyed using the car (hey, it had 5 owners before me and over 100k miles), and tweaking a few things here and there (hey, part of the Honda game is a bit of personalization), so I’m probably fighting a loosing battle on one or more of those fronts.

If I had to summarize the state of the car at this time in a similar format to the previous postings, I’d post the following:

Description:
Currently at 130,000 miles
Clean title
All maintenance is up to date (including oil and transmission fluid analysis)
Rebuilt top end at about 129,000 miles (burnt a valve at the track)

Modifications:
I’m not going to say “all stock except”, because I think most folks know what that actually means "it's not 100% stock". Instead, I’ve kept a comprehensive list of what I’ve done and what I’ve discovered from tinkering that was done by previous owners up to today:
Engine
- Baffled OEM Oil Pan from Devon M & myHondaHabit stud kit (my doing)
- ARP Headstuds (my doing)
- Spoon Magnetic Oil Pan Drain Bolt
Suspension
- Koni Yellow Sport Shocks (my doing)
- JDM 23mm Rear Sway Bar
Brakes
- Techna-Fit Stainless Steel Brake Hoses
- Acura OEM ITR Pads for daily driving
- Carbotech XP10 (Front), XP8 (Rear) for the track (my doing)
Drivetrain
- Competition Clutch 12.5lbs Flywheel
- Techna-fit Stainless Steel Clutch Line (my doing)
- Spoon Magnetic Transmission Drain Bolt
Wheels / Tires
- Volk Racing TE-37 (Bronze) 16” x 7” +42 for daily driving, flat Volk center caps with custom Acura “A” logo, and Project Kics R26 Lug Nuts (my doing)
- “Nice set” of Acura OEM - Just to have (I think these were refinished before my ownership) and a set of “Not-so-nice” set of Acura OEM wheels for the track. Keeping these on the car with a set of Black Honda Lug Nuts w/ McGuard Locks
Exterior
- OEM Foglights (I’ve actually replaced the original OEM fogs with a new set just due to chips & nicks in the lenses)
- 3M 35% Window Tint
- OEM Splash Guards (my doing)
- Removed Rear Wiper (my doing)
Interior
- JDM Shift Boot / Faux Carbon Fiber Console Surround
- JDM Carbon Fiber Shifter Trim
- AutoVation Pedal Cover Set (my doing)
- Custom Driver's Foot Rest Pad on OEM Floormats (my doing)
- Cigarette Lighter Removed / Replaced with 12V Outlet Cover from an S2000.
Stereo
- Alpine CDA-117 Headunit (my doing)
- Alpine KTP-445U Power Pack Amp (my doing)
- Infiniti Kappa Speakers - 6.5" 65.9cs components in the front, and 6.5" 652.9i coaxials in the rear (my doing)
Electronics
- SPA Designs Analog Oil Pressure and Oil Temperature Gauges in a Tegiwa LHD Clock Pod (my doing)
- Modifry’s Redline Shift Beeper (my doing)
- PLX Kiwi 2 WiFi OBD2 Reader and a wired in mic for track vids y0! (my doing)
Security
- <there is some security :) >
Miscellaneous
- Honda JDM OEM ITR Oil Filler Cap (my doing)
- eBay Battery Tie Down w/ a tiny Deka battery (my doing)

All that said, going forward, there's some fun stories in some of the various items above, so I'll fill in some of those details in my next round of updates.

Hope this is fun at least for a few of you (it is for me at least!).
