This one has been posted a few times here . Not on bat, the New Jersey dealer that was selling it.

The car just sold for 40K (plus fees). Given the history of the car, is this amount surprising?

Is there something negative in its history? I don't think anything was brought up in the auction listing or the comments on BaT, just that it was traded in on an Audi R8 by the original owner and was for sale at a dealer in NJ until this March when purchased by the BaT selling dealer. Really nice looking ITR. Heaven help me if a similar '97-'98 show up.

What I meant by history is that it had USDM parts exchanged for some very nice JDM parts and that it was sold by a dealer.

Ah, I see. Not surprised then. Not any more than the one last year that sold on BaT for $40k with exactly double the miles. It was all stock except for the wheels, which also went with the car and still had the Potenza RE 010s on them. Actually, thinking about where all nice ITRs are going is both understandable and surreal at the same time, lol.

Given what you wrote, I am curious. If a 97-98 ITR showed up on BAT with similar mileage, and condition, but will all original parts, how much would it go for to somebody like yourself?

I'm waiting to see that happen because I'm really curious! I'd guess a 29,000 mile, one-owner, all original 1997 ITR would touch $50,000 right now in 2018. Is that nuts? There was the $43,000 (right?) 10k-mile '97 on eBay with a replaced fender, but that was 2-3 years ago? If the right people are "in the room" for the auction, maybe even more than $50,000. Say $45,000-$46,000 for the '98.

One thing that caught my attention in the last minutes of this last auction was someone who commented that Porsche community guys were watching it, and they think the car is iconic. So many known Honda enthusiasts in the auction comments, that I forgot about other car guys who know and remember the ITR from track events, media, etc.

Btw, I can't afford those prices. I'd pay it if I could, I love these cars, but my speed would be a nice higher mileage CW if I'm lucky. A 96spec in a few years might be more like it; something I can have fun with and not worry so much.

The real question is what's the top value. I heard that a local cw ITR in the LA area with 15 literal miles sold for $78k. I don't know if it was a '97 or '98 but only that it was cw. So that's what I see as the ceiling.
