I got this car a few months ago. Original owners (senior couple) traded it in towards a newer Honda. It's all stock. Had about 145k miles but now has about 152k.




Recenly it had trouble starting because of the ignition switch, which finally went bad. I normally turn the key to III. Indicator lights light up and after the fuel pump primes and the check engine light goes off I start the car. While the key is in III the clock and fan (if switch is left on) also come on. This time nothing happened. No clock or fan and no lights on the dash. The radio and lighter socket did come on. When attempting to start the engine turns over and the engine starts but then immediately shuts off due to lack of fuel. When the clutch is not depressed and I turn the key past the III position the fuel pump primes and the dash lights come on and the check engine light turns off. I checked the fuses uner the hood and dash and all are good.

From what I've seen online if you're replacing the ignition switch you also have to use the key cylinder it came with. Is there a reason you can't use the original key cylinder with the new ignition switch? I'd rather keep one key instead of having one for the doors/trunk and one for the ignition.

Are you asking if you can replace just the ignition harness?

I think I need part number 35100-SR3-A03, which includes a new key and key cylinder.

I know how to take the key cylinder out (turn key and push pin to get cylinder out) and was wondering if that existing key cylinder will work in the new ignition switch (wiring and ignition lock assembly).

I tried the key cylinder from my 1994 coupe and it fit so the plan is to just get a replacement aftermarket ignition switch assembly and reuse the current sedan's cylinder.

Yes it's pretty clean for the age. Leaks water inside the cabin when it rains too =( Will pull the cowling and carpeting eventually to find where the water is getting in.

I ordered a generic ignition switch assembly from Rock Auto. I took the wiring from the generic one and replaced the one in the car while keeping the original key cylinder and now everything works fine.

Routing the wiring was a bit difficult because of the tight space. I wasn't able to reuse the two cable ties from the original wiring that attached to two places under the dash but the new wiring seems secure under there.

I still own it. Installed a BNIB chin spoiler from ICB in Arizona last year. Currently has 227k miles. Bought two sets of OEM style foglights but the quality sucks (one kit was from Auto88 on Amazon, the other is from Spec D Tuning). Replaced worn OEM dampers with Eibach Pro-Kits and the handling is much improved even with the stock springs. I'm mad I procrastinated on getting more Eibachs when they were on clearance for $180 for a set of four! I also installed a DC Sports strut bar from Heeltoe. I have a DC Sports cold air intake, 4-2-1 header, and exhaust but I haven't installed them yet as I want to dyno test before and after they're installed.

I'm keeping the car and also looking for a white 1994 Civic Si with ABS and a white 1994 del Sol Si to complete my 1994 Civic collection (I also have a 1994 Civic EX coupe with 503k miles).

I haven't checked the sunroof drain yet.
