2001 GS-R: Engine rebuild, other refreshments

bullocks.....sucks he's ghosted you. Unless you feel like finding a dry ice blasting service forget about cleaning that block with anything else but elbow grease, chems and water. ANY blasting at this point might be bad news. If it's not washed properly it will show up K.O.E.O.

Depending on your timeline you can DM me some more info. and lmk how far you are from 92336. All I ask is, if it falls in the month of nov. that I'm compensated one Mcrib meal combo, no pickles, xtra sauce, per visit.

Made progress!!! Joel/JDMJNKY stopped by and helped me to assemble the bottom end. We measure the rod bearings measured, got the piston rings clocked, and installed the crankshaft, pistons/rods, and main cap. I'm so stoked! My plan now is to put all the small pieces of the block together (oil pump) etc. And then get some help from Joel to assemble the cylinder head!

I got the metal plate with rear main seal installed (new oem piece). Now I gotta get a new o-ring for oil pump before I install that and continue. It's pretty fun to assemble an engine!

Check out those new oem P30 pistons with new oem rings.

It was fun catching up IRL man, hope you had a good time learning. LMK when you're ready for round two...... We will get the cylinder head situated. The most important thing at this point is getting the oil pan on and bottom-end "sealed-off."

Before you pulled the engine you said you were consuming lots of oil. Did you also have any oil leaks too? Was your bumper black from the exhaust?

I have a 1999 GS-R sedan with about 183k miles and it uses a lot of oil due to low compression (90-100psi or so according to shop that looked at it). The rear bumper gets black really quickly and I'm washing it once a week it seems.

I am pretty sure my engine was consuming oil from worn out valve seals. I didn't have too much black on the bumper from the exhaust, just a little bit which seemed normal.

I'm no expert, but maybe your piston rings are worn out? That might explain the low compression, as well as burning oil coming up from the crankcase.

That could be enough. Unless it has something to do with the cyl head. Maybe just find a shop and have them diagnose it. Better to fix it sooner than later.
