Thinking of selling in the future...any suggestions on the best way to do that

I am the original owner of a 2001 black ITR. I was a grandmother when I bought it new, drove it for the first year, then garaged it and we drive it a couple hundred miles a year. Mileage now at 30,000. All original, not sure I’m ready to sell it yet, but starting to think about it. Not sure the best way to do that. Any thoughts? I know it would probably be more interesting to investors rather than enthusiasts

Bringatrailer.com is a popular choice, if you want to go with the auction route. There are some fees that need to be considered when taking that route. Otherwise, places like this website, Facebook pages or eBay can be another route. Do you have a price in mind?

Hmmm. Just checked bring a trailer and a 2001 ITR just sold last week for $37,500. It had 151,000 miles, 4 previous owners, and doesn’t have all the maintenance records, but looks to be in very good condition and well taken care of.
I know one in the condition mine is in is hard to find, original owner, all records and low miles. One sold on bring a trailer awhile ago there for $82,000, but it only had 6,000 mi and was a 98.
So, hard to tell what it is worth.
They say it’s a 7 day auction, but I’m thinking I need to put some feelers out ahead of time..?

I've helped a few people with their BaT auctions. If you go that route, I can point you to some of those auctions to see how we listed them. In order to get a lot of bidders, you need to be honest with the condition and answer questions during the auction. It's definitely a process.

Likewise, you can definitely list it here without any fees, etc.

2 points i would like you to consider:

1) There are some awesome enthusiasts on this site and they are very helpful. I think one of the "perks" of being on here is you might see things before they go "public." With that in mind, it would be awesome if you offered it here first.

2) You will probably get the most out of BaT, but you will also work the most to get it. Think of it as a place where car nerds with too much money want to ask the most annoying questions. IE you have 30k miles so are you still on OE tires? OE brake pads? Whats the service history. Why does the shadow on the right rear reflect slightly different then the shadow on the door? (these are just examples) The one thing I didnt really know about BaT until I was recently looking at an R35 is that the buyer pays a 5% purchase commission. You dont pay that, but its an added cost. Something to think about.

I am on the 3rd set of tires due to age, current set are not racing tires, just regular, nothing special. Brake pads and everything is original except fluids, and timing belt we replaced as recommended by Honda. We don’t have an Acura dealer near us, so have always done the regular maintenance there.

Yes, I have all the records. I have some better pics that are clearer I will add to the post, I didn’t before as the plates showed in the pic, but I finally figured out how to cover them...lol. Next time it is out I will get much better pictures though.

It’s flaws are a small dent about 4” to the left of the gas lid that happened when I parked to close to a gas pump, and when I placed the handle it jumped back out and hit the car.... I was sick. Too scared to leave it at a body shop though... there is a dimple in the rear bumper that i did the first time I drove it getting reacquainted with a stick. Also, one day I got in the car with a pen in my pocket and it caught the steering wheel and put a deep scratch in the leather on the steering wheel (at the bottom) about 2” long. Also, when I was new and I got it home, I noticed in a certain light there is what looks like a slight wave in the paint of the drivers door over the natural crease ( maybe 3”) my husband still doesn’t see it, so not sure about it, maybe I was seeing things, and I haven’t been able to see it again to show him. But, if so, it came that way, and I loved it just as it came...

Opps forgot to mention a couple curb scrapes on the front bumper from when I drove it everyday to work, it had the bra on it for most of that time though. The shadow you asked about is just that. I was having a hard time with that on the black.

Just want to say it is really cool you are the original owner still! I do understand there is always a time to move on and let someone else enjoy.

Personally I would find an experienced dealer who has a good track record on Bringatrailer and consign it with them. I have seen many auctions go sideways due to poor pictures, not enough information, or comments going sideways. It is not for the faint of heart and you only get one shot to market it properly.

You could list it here and see if there are any serious buyers. Another option is to trade it in to a specialty dealer if you find another car you would like. It's always nice to reduce your taxes if you are going to replace it.

I highly recommend having it serviced, detailed, and photographed by a professional. You want a long distance buyer to have as much confidence as possible if you want top dollar.
