(MOVED FROM DISCUSSION) Need a price analysis on a 1997 Acura Integra Type R

Post by Sp0oky » Thu Mar 04, 2021 1:10 am

Hi guys. Been watching the forums and reading up for my knowledge. A neighbor of mine has a 1997 White Integra Type R and he is considering selling it. I told him I would search for a current analysis on what it is worth, so I can help him list and sell the car as he doesn’t have social media, and isn’t a huge internet guy. I want to help him get a fair price for the car. I am the previous owner of an 01’ that I used it this forum to sell last year thus me coming to you guys as help. I will lay out some of what I know and can tell you about the car so I can help get an analysis.

1997 Type R- the car is stock, and unmodified with no stories and no hidden things.
All original paint, body, panels, windows, engine/ transmission. This car has never seen paint work, and has never been in an accident. He is the 2nd owner (I believe? I need to ask but I recall him saying so) and has owned it for roughly 10 years. There is no rust on the car, as it almost appears as you could eat off the undercarriage (no joke!) he has a thick binder of documentation on the car and all the original paperwork, and car cover. The car has roughly 79,000 miles (I also need to get the exact mileage reading) but man, this is a nice car. I would buy it myself, but Im not in a place where I could afford to purchase the car. If you guys can help me throughout this process I will be more than happy! Just trying to get a price analysis before we go any further. Thanks Type R family!

Seems like the higher mileage (79k) is the only limiting factor, although not that limiting tbh. So I'd say it's worth at least $55k+.

What is your neighbor's top goal? If they intend to fetch top dollar, Bring a Trailer (BaT) and other auctions have garnered higher public prices. That comes with dealing with the requirements of the auction and writing off any future considerations for the car. Other sellers may opt for a lower price tag to insure the car finds a great home.

Either, the car sounds clean. I would invest time in thoroughly detailing the car (via paid professional if inexperienced) and documenting. Engine bay, door jams, etc. I can share tips in our detailing thread if helpful.

I don’t think top dollar is necessarily. Just a reasonable price that is fair for the car. He doesn’t want to deal with an auction. Looking for a buyer who will appreciate the car.

Thank you for the feedback. Auctions can be more work than the typical work associated with selling a car. If the seller is willing to offset a higher price by reducing the work, I understand.

The second aspect is finding a quality home. I associate with this angle, as I've seen several community owners sell only to see their car flipped shortly after. This is more common today with the high speculation market that as emerged for Honda's. The seller may not be willing to deal with auctions but the next buyer might have that goal in mind. Since you've stated your friend wants to find a quality home I recommend due diligence on prospective buyers during the sale process. Again, it's more work on the seller, but it insures a quality home for the car and reduces the chances the car will end up on BaT in a month/year/etc.

This guy/gal could be the right buyer? Would be nice to keep this car in the hands of an iTRCA member.
