Nice find!

Yes, mind blowing my today's figures.

How is the paint job holding up?

Was the rear right corner of the car damaged by the thieves or prior to the theft?

Still shocked the previous owner won the auction with the $450 bid and $650 after fees, etc!
Yep, I have those saved, but nice research work!

The theft story and insurance was a bit different because of how much was left. Unfortunately, not all of that carried over to when I got it.

The rear right was damaged twice. Once during Ed's ownership and again during Chris's. Chris's damage was a bit more intense and required some repair. It's mostly good now, but I haven't put it on alignment rack yet. I need to blast a few bolts back there and hope they'll turn with some time.

Chris was very honest about this and said the repair was good but not great. The hatch itself requires a little a bit extra to close nicely. We'll see if that changes when I swap on the 97R hatch with some adjusting.

The paint is actually in pretty good condition still.

Is that engine you dropped in the one you called a dud?

Who put the OEM 94-97 front end back on? Previous owner?

I am assuming the previous owner took off things like the SMSP exhaust, wheels, front end, seats, brake calipers, and suspension.

Can you tell I am very interested in this car's life? lol

Haha, it's all good.

Previous owner did return the 97 front end. The welds aren't the best, and I might need to have them cleaned up someday. The shift console also had metal welded in from another Integra. When doing k-swaps back then, many had to cut that section out.

As far as the rest of the stuff, it had a cut LS b-pipe and rusted out axle back, spare tires on all 4 wheels, and jdm 98 spec suspension / brakes. It had a dash and carpet as well some wires. However, a lot of items had been cut.

At one point, the previous owner returned it to a b-series via a JDM SiR(G? II?) drivetrain.

That meant the trans mount had been returned and welded back too. Once that drivetrain was pulled though, a lot of things were cut out. Wiring was mixed and needed some clean-up, hoses, reservoirs, shift linkage, and all were missing. Likwise, the SRS wiring, EVAP, and secondary o2 were removed too. I'm still in the process of returning some of that functionality, if needed.

The engine that put in Oct 2017 was a dud, yes. We did some work on it before putting in, but it was mostly maintenance such as belts, water pump, etc. I'll get to the issues later.

No complaints though. That's what a project car is.

Here's a brief fast foward to earlier today. I got our kiddo a white ITR from Walgreens the other day. He says it's "daddy's car" and chose the red FC RX-7 for himself, which is awesome and hilarious. He then asked to see the "big car" to compare. So, this happened:

It was quite a funny moment as he compared the wheels, etc. He hasn't really seen the DB8R much yet. The last time he saw it was in 2019, and I don't think he knew it was mine. I'll fix that this summer.

I'll work on a proper update this week.

I like his style. With Honda parts prices ideas on an RX-7 have crept into my head. I spotted one in the wild on Saturday. 8-)

So, I want to provide proof that projects do reach completion. Long journey here, much more than I anticipated. Many life hurdles during this, including 4 Expos, 1 Expo attempt, a child, and numerous other issues that I won't disclose here.

Bottom line, I am glad I did not give up. 97 #00151 returned to the road today, registered and all. I have a long list of thank yous which will follow this.

Happy day. I recall my first drive after rebuilding #981040 from a shell. I'm thrilled for you, now it's time to enjoy after years of wrench time.
